Predictive Tire Maintenance for
an Aircraft Manufacturer
A major aircraft tire manufacturer required an automated installation and replacement service. Initially, their process was very manual - field teams had to check the identifiers on tires manually and search for associated paper documents. This proved costly and led to frequent errors.
The Challenge
The Olympe team collaborated closely with the manufacturer's business team to create specifications directly within the Olympe platform. Using the app, they scanned the tire's serial number using a mobile camera and leveraged Amazon Web Service's optical character recognition (OCR) service. The initial version of the demo app was then transformed into a live application prototype. Just seven days later, it was ready to be showcased to the manufacturer and their clients.
The Solution
With Olympe, the company built an application that streamlines equipment inspection. Inspectors can now take photos and annotate them directly in the app, access equipment history for context, and input reports even offline. These reports are then synced to the central database when the internet is available. The app also offers a customized visual dashboard of selected equipment performance criteria, making it easy to track key metrics and identify potential problems.
The Results
The final deliverable consisted of mobile applications developed for both the manufacturer's field service teams and clients. These applications were seamlessly integrated with the client's ERP system, allowing clients to easily access and query the status of their tires within the manufacturer's system. Additionally, the internal teams benefitted from an enhanced maintenance business process, which included the implementation of predictive maintenance techniques.
Smarter Visual Inspection for
a Manufacturer
A large hydro-power equipment manufacturer was facing difficulty in protecting its margins against lower-cost competitors. The visual inspection and maintenance of equipment at clients' global field locations was particularly undervalued. With Olympe's help, the company developed an app that made on-site inspections more comprehensive, as well as enabling new collaborative and offline features.
The Challenge
The company leased large industrial assets to clients, which required inspectors to visit the sites regularly to check if the equipment needed maintenance or repair. To differentiate itself from low-cost suppliers, the company wanted to provide value-added services beyond basic equipment inspection. They had considered using their existing low-code tool Mendix, but the tool could not handle the complexity of their business rules. Its offline and data visualization capabilities were also limited.
The Solution
With Olympe, the company developed an application that empowers inspectors to capture equipment photos and annotate them seamlessly. It grants access to equipment history for informed decision-making and enables inspectors to input reports offline, which automatically syncs to the central database once internet connectivity is restored. Additionally, it offers a tailored visual dashboard showcasing selected equipment performance criteria, providing a comprehensive overview for easier analysis and decision-making.
The Results
The Olympe application was built five times faster than with alternative technologies, and it met all of the company's requirements. The company could easily adapt the app in the future to capture more performance indicators, such as the corrosion of a rotating part. Inspection results captured centrally were now automatically shared with the product team, which allowed them to design better products, such as turbines with more corrosion-resistant rotating parts. This gave the company a product innovation edge over low-cost competitors.
